"Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us." - Mindfulness.org
In mindfulness, a practice rooted in Buddhist meditation, you endeavor to pay attention to yourself--your thoughts, your feelings, and your body--as well as your environment. Mindfulness can be practiced on its own as a meditation, or it can be integrated into day-to-day living. In both cases, the practice of mindfulness has been shown to benefit both physical and mental health.
Mindfulness may not come easily at first, but that's okay--mindfulness is an active practice, and involves training your mind to notice things with intention. Some mindfulness techniques may resonate with you better than others. Check out the resources on this page to learn more about mindfulness methods.
