What is CSE?

CSE style (previously known as CBE) is the citation format established by the Council of Science Editors. This format is preferred by writers in many disciplines found in the natural sciences. CSE has two citation systems: the Citation-Sequence system and Name-Year system. These two citation schemes differ in their in-text citations and the manner in which works cited are listed. This library guide has been created to provide examples of commonly used source types.
