Putting the L,G,B,T,I and Q in Collection Development: Resources on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity: Withdrawals

Helpful Criteria for Evaluating Titles

Keep these things in mind as you review titles for possible withdrawal and/or replacement:
  • Date/Currency
  • Terminology - Is it outdated?
  • Publisher
  • Author

Ask yourself:

  • Is it a primary source?
  • Is it a historical analysis?
  • Is it comprehensive?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above, this is a good indicator to retain.

Reviews can be a good source to help you evaluate materials.

Also, consider contacting LGBTQ organizations in your community or from your organization (such as faculty).
