Parker Hively - HIST 499

Bio: Parker Hively is a senior at USC Upstate who has recently discovered a passion for Public History and historic preservation. During an internship, Parker was introduced to these fields and gained valuable experience transcribing documents and learning about local history. This experience has inspired Parker to pursue further education in the field at UNC Charlotte this fall. Parker believes that their internship and coursework have fully prepared them for their future career in historic preservation, and they are eager to make a positive impact in the field.

Emily Kessler - HIST 391

Major: Secondary Education in Social Studies

Bio: Emily is a junior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in Secondary Education in Social Studies. This project has allowed her to discover her passion for historical research. After graduation, she plans to become a middle or high school history teacher.

 

Mallory Stoop - HIST 391, HIST 499

Major: History

Bio: 

Mallory is a senior at the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in History and minoring in Women’s and Gender Studies. The Service-Learning course in combination with the internship has allowed her to work with historical documents that offer a firsthand account of significant moments in history that she has had the opportunity to transcribe and, from that, build searchable databases as well as create digital exhibits. She would like to be able to apply this knowledge and skill towards a career focused on historical preservation and archiving.

 

Izabella White - HIST 391

Major: History

Bio: Izabella, or Bella, is a Senior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in History. She intends to pursue a career as a history teacher after obtaining a Master's Degree in Education. This project has been a great opportunity to explore specific areas in women's war history and taught her quite a bit about research compilation and presentation. The experience gained from this project will be an asset as she persues higher education and throughout her career. 

Natasha Ferreira - HIST 391

Bio:  Natasha is a senior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in Political Science and minoring in History, Philosophy, and Pre-Law.  This project has allowed her to explore the regional history of South Carolina and the Greenville area, giving her a new perspective and expanding her historical lens.

Sophia Hunsicker - HIST 391

Bio: Sophia is a junior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate and is majoring in History. After college, she plans to get her Master's Degree in Business for Human Resources.

 

Jada Pearson - HIST 391

Major: History

Bio: Jada is a junior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in History minoring in Pre-law. While working with this project she learned so much about World War Two and how to work with digital Lib Guides. She enjoyed this experience and hopes to run into another class like this one in the future. Her plan after graduation is to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia, SC.

Trang Dinh - HIST 391

Bio: Trang is currently a junior at University of South Carolina, Upstate with a major in history and a minor in education. This experience has given Trang an open perspective on digging through history from a perspective of which is not on the newspaper everyday. After graduation she plans on either continuing her school for a masters in special education or doing missionary work across the globe.

 

Jordan Wilmoth - HIST 391

Major: History

Bio: Jordan is a junior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in History and seeking to pursue a minor or cognate in Art History. As someone who is very invested in World War Two history, this project has allowed her to explore first-hand accounts of people experiencing these events and gain a deeper understanding of them. While not entirely sure what exactly she would like to do after college, she wants to find a career where she can apply her passion for history such as archival work or teaching history to others.  

Lauren Henderson - HIST 391, HIST 499

Minor: Political Science

 

Bio: Lauren is a junior at the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in History and minoring in Political Science. This Service Learning project and the Internship have given her the opportunity to work closely with historical documents and uncover new histories that can be featured in digital exhibits. After transcribing over a hundred documents, Lauren has been introduced to the world of historic preservation, and can potentially pursue a career in this field.

Bio: Wyatt is a senior at the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in Political Science. After college he plans to pursue a career in firefighting. 

Samantha Reinhardt - HIST 391

Letters: 44, 63

Major: English

Bio:  Samantha is a senior attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in English and minoring in Women's and Gender Studies.  This project has been a valuable experience for her to explore first-hand accounts of real women throughout history.  She hopes to start a career in higher education because she is passionate about showing people the power of education, such as the opportunity she has had in this class.  

Edwin Waters - HIST 391; University Archives Student Employee

Major: History

 

Bio: Edwin is a sophomore attending the University of South Carolina Upstate majoring in History and minoring in Education. This project has allowed him to narrow down what he wants to do with his future. In the past he has considered teaching in public schools as a social studies teacher, teaching in higher education or working within student success resources, and working in human resources, and now is also interested in library science/archival fields. 

As the student employee in the University Archives, he provided extensive background research on the first 40 letters to provide continuity with the letters being worked on for HIST 391.
