SPCH U309 Small Group Communication: Assignment

OPTION 1 Creative Instructional Video Presentation:

Create a 10-minute instructional video that demonstrates a small group/team communication concept or theory (cohesion, groupthink, problem-solving, relational issues, conflict, etc.). The concept must be grounded in the course materials. In other words, you should build upon a course concept or theory discussed in class or in your textbook. On the day of the group presentation, group members will introduce the video and explain how and why the documentary is important for small group communication. For example, groups may reenact an episode from a reality television program and then use course concepts to explain the events in the scene.

AND

Create a PowerPoint (or Prezi etc.) to introduce the video and explain how and why the documentary is important for small-group communication. This project will be evaluated based on (a) how well the group introduces and explains the relevance of the film; (b) how well the video and subsequent discussion communicates the course concepts and achieves the groups objectives; (c) how well the PowerPoint (or Prezi etc.) presentation incorporates and appropriately cites (APA) at least 4 academic peer reviewed journal articles or books to support the discussion. Do not simply include a reference list at the end of your presentation. Your textbook does not count as one of your academic sources. Grading criteria will include creativity, effectiveness, and clarity of concepts. Additional criteria include the projects overall organization, presentation effectiveness, digital citizenship, and delivery (verbal and nonverbal communication i.e., eye contact, extemporaneous speaking, tone, and body language etc.). OPTION 2 - Persuasive Infographic/Research Presentation:

 Persuasive Infographic/Research Presentation: Present an analysis of a problem impacting the University of South Carolina Upstate, SC, nation, or world. This presentation must also include a solution to the problem. Each member must contribute at least 2 academic peer reviewed journal articles to support the group’s discussion. A formal PowerPoint (or acceptable alternative) presentation must be designed to support the group’s arguments. The PowerPoint, Prezi etc., must begin with an infographic using (Canva https://www.canva.com/ or alternative program). Infographics must contain logical appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos and clearly indicate your group's argument (thesis). Presentations must incorporate and appropriately cite (APA) all the peer-reviewed journal articles listed on your reference list. Do not simply include a reference list at the end of your presentation. Your textbook does not count as one of your academic sources. Grading criteria will include creativity, effectiveness, and clarity of concepts. OPTION 3 – Informative Infographic/Research Presentation on communication research

 Informative Infographic/Research Presentation on communication research (race, class, performance, socialization, identity, etc.). This presentation must also include course concepts to explain why this research is important for small group communication. Each member must contribute at least 2 academic peer reviewed journal articles to support the group’s discussion. The PowerPoint, Prezi etc., must include an infographic using (Canva https://www.canva.com/ or alternative program). Infographics must include logical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos) and clearly convey the key points of your presentation. Presentations must incorporate and appropriately cite (APA) all the peer-reviewed journal articles listed on your reference list. Do not simply include a reference list at the end of your presentation. Your textbook does not count as one of your academic sources. Grading criteria will include creativity, effectiveness, and clarity of concepts.
