What are Course Reserves?

Course Reserves are supplementary materials which are set aside by faculty for use in a specific course. Examples of course reserves include books, journals, lecture notes, old tests or term papers, videos, and photocopies of chapters or articles.  Use of reserve materials is limited to current USC Upstate faculty, staff and students. Physical reserve items may be checked out from the Circulation Desk for a limited time period. Electronic reserves are available online and are accessed by USC Upstate network username and password. (See below for the list of instructors who are currently using electronic reserves.)

How to Check Out Course Reserves

You must present a current USC Upstate ID card and your library account must be in good standing for access to reserve material held at the circulation desk.

  • All reserve items are listed in a binder that is located on the circulation counter opposite the photocopiers. Titles are listed under the instructor's name or course.
  • Most materials on reserves are loaned for "Library Use Only" and may not be taken outside of the building. The other materials are loaned for 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days.
  • You may photocopy materials. Circulation staff will be happy to assist you with use of the photocopiers. Photocopies can be charged to your print account.
  • Up to three reserve items may be checked out to your account at any given time.
  • Fines for overdue reserve items are $5.00 per day with no grace period and no renewal.
  • Some reserve materials are only accessable in electronic format from the USC Upstate Libray web page. The reserve binder listing for such items will state "e-reserve". (See below for the list of instructors who are currently using electronic reserves.)
