Searching for Juvenile Books in the Library Catalog

To find books from juvenile collection on a specific topic, when in the catalog, do the following:

1. Leave Keyword as a search option

2. Type JUV in the search box and the topic. For example, juv and ethnicity. By using juv, you will request only titles stored in juvenile collection.

3. Click the Search button.

4. Browse juvenile titles.

5. Select a title that you like and notice its call number. Write it down or text it to yourself.

6. You may check out as many books as you want. Please note, each book has an individual call number.

Book Audit Assignment

Book Audit 15 points

You will complete a book audit in the form of an annotated bibliography using a minimum of 25 children’s books from different genres. The audit must be grade/reading level/standards appropriate (you choose the level and specify on the audit). You must create a set of criteria by which to evaluate the literature you select, i.e. why did you choose these particular titles. Include the book citation (APA), a brief synopsis/summary; the theme or focal concept(s); genre or category, and instructional ideas for using the novel/book instructionally.

You should organize your list by concepts, themes, or genres listed:

  • 3 Gender Neutral Series

  • 2 Graphic Novels

  • 3 Social Studies/History

  • 3 Science Concepts/Skills

  • 3 Math Concept/Skills

  • 2 Writing Skills Integration

  • 3 Diversity (Family Structure, Disabilities, Bullying)

  • 3 Ethnicity

  • 3 Award Winning
