In-Library Session

In-Library Session (held in Library 118, the "back" computer lab):

Tuesday, November 14, 9:25-10:40 a.m.

In this library session, we will take a look at various library resources (books, reference materials, electronic resources including biography databases) and how to make the most of them in this class.

Resources for APA Style

Most questions about citation formats have to do with how to cite electronic resources, as they usually demand additional information be added to the basic citation. When citing a journal article, you may be confused as to what additions you need. The DOI (digital object identifier) is a relatively new system that assigns each electronic document a unique number, like the ISBN of a book. The current APA manual calls for the DOI number for all digital documents if present. But what if there is no DOI? Then you might need to use the URL of the journal's home page OR the URL of the subscription database in which you found the article. Confused? This flow chart from APA is a useful way to determine what you need in your citation.
